RACE 1 SPRING BURNSCO SERIES

Burnsco Spring Series under way
A great evening to start off the series, warm all day and a 12-17 knot northerly which would die out but not until later hopefully?
Plenty of crew :- Kev, Patrick, Knoxy, Aaron, Alix, Jenna, Holly, Matt, and Charlie Rowe, new to CV this season.
With 3 Divisions this season we only had 7 start in Div 1 but a great turnout of 33 on the water in total.
We started to leeward at the Club end but had to slot in behind Blackout with Future Feedback overlapped inside us.
Clearing the harbour entrance we stayed low, wanting to power up into the sloppy sea against tide and hopefully brake through Blackout, Future Feedback with Zenith on their tail were climbing high having a tussle.
We continued out on starboard using the outgoing tide but had to push through the worst of the slop, Blackout tacked away early looking for flatter water up the bank inside the tide.
We came back together at the top mark, tacked for the mark rounding 2 boat lengths ahead.
The run to the bottom mark was short but we got another boat length as we dropped and rounded, the breeze was now down to 12-13, CV felt a little under powered on the wind back to the top, Blackout coming back at us to lead at the mark by 3-4 lengths.
The run home we were struggling to fly out heavy masthead kite in the lighter breeze, bugger should have changed to the light kite.
An overtaking chance came when we both caught a Div 2 boat, Blackout went to leeward of him while we went to weather, we had the lead back. but Blackout caught us again to finish 25 seconds ahead, Future Feedback was 3rd home 5 minutes behind.
We managed 1st on handicap and according to the results sailed to a .901 handicap Not that slow?
